Diomed team off to fast start in 2009 - Monday, April 27, 2009
STUART WILLIAMS has had his string in flying form over the early months of 2009, reaching double figures in terms of winners by the middle of April.
Itshim was a major contributor to the early-term success, striking in three successive races. Blacktoft achieved the same feat before being claimed out of Diomed Stables.
Consistent filly Welsh Opera has been another fine money-winner for connections, winning twice as well as making the frame on several other occasions.
Little Carmela also had a glowing winter campaign, winning either side of the Christmas.
The trainer said: “I’m really pleased with how the year has gone so far. We had plenty of winners in the spring - let’s just hope there are plenty more to come over the coming months.”
The first part of the season has highlighted what Williams and his team can do with comparatively cheaply-bought horses.
Itshim was purchased for just 3000gns and was sold for many times that amount to America after he’d completed his spring hat-trick.
There are still several horses - including several promising two-year-olds - for sale. Why not contact the office at Diomed Stables on 01638 663 984 to find out more.
Stuart summed up: “Horses like Itshim and Lunar Leo - who was second at Royal Ascot - were bought for not much money and we’ve had plenty of others who were comparatively cheap purchases, who have gone on to do well.”
