Group 3 test for Hogmaneigh - Monday, April 27, 2009

HOGMANEIGH returns to Group company on May 2 with a shot at the Palace House Stakes on home soil.

The six-year-old gelding last competed in Pattern company at the end of 2007 when a wide draw did nothing to assist his challenge at Longchamp in the Abbaye.

Hogmaneigh wins The Ladbrokes Portland at Doncaster
The Stuart Williams-trained Hogmaneigh warmed up for his Group 3 test at Newmarket with a pleasing seasonal bow, finishing a neck second to Eisteddfod in a conditions stakes at Kempton on March 28.

Williams said: “He ran well at Kempton on what was only his second start on the all-weather. He usually comes on for his first run of the season so we are looking forward to the Palace House.

“He is easier to train now as we’ve got him sounder thanks to some new shoes. We are just hoping for a little bit of rain ahead of the race which would help our cause.”

Hogmaneigh currently has five victories to his name, the last of which came at the 2008 St Leger Festival where he triumphed in the lucrative Portland Handicap.
